American Roulette is played using a wheel which has 38 slots, each with its own number. The numbers are 0, 00, and 1 – 36. The numbers are arranged to alternate pairs of odd numbers and pairs of even numbers. These also alternate between being coloured black and red. In a real casino, a croupier will spin the wheel in one direction and then the ball in the other direction. The players will then bet on where the ball will land.

There have been some notable instances of gamblers noticing patterns to wheel spins in real casinos, but this is not something that is possible when playing online roulette at an online casino.

The ‘table’ is designed with the main numbers being lined up into three columns, each consisting of 12 numbers. The rest of the table lists the many different kinds bets that are available. Players can choose to play as many different bets as they wish.

The bets that you can make while playing online roulette are divided into two categories – inside bets and outside bets.

Inside bets

Straight bet

This is betting that one particular number on the wheel will come up. If that number wins, the typical payoff at an online casino is 35 to 1.

Split bet

This is betting that one of two numbers that lie next to each other on the table will win. You win if the ball lands on either number. The odds offered when playing roulette online are usually 17 to 1.

Street bet, or Three Number bet

This is betting that any number in a particular row will be hit on the next spin. Usually when playing roulette online the payoff is 11 to 1.

Corner, Square bet, or Four-Number bet

This bets that one of four numbers that are located next to each other will hit on the next spin. If one of these numbers comes up, you win. This bets pays 8 to 1 in most games of roulette online.

Similar bets are available for five numbers (0, 00, 1, 2, 3) or six numbers in two adjacent rows. These bets pay 6 to 1.

Outside bets

Outside bets are things such as betting that the number that will come up will be red or black, or even or odd. These usually pay 1 to 1.

There are other outside bets offered at online casinos. When you are playing roulette online you can place a low or high bets – which is betting on whether or not the number that will come up will be above or below 18.

Other bets available in online roulette include the dozen bet – which is if the number will be in the range of 1-12, 13-24, or 25-36. Finally, you can bet on which column the number that comes up will be in.

When you are playing roulette online, be sure to note if the online casino uses English or American rules – in English roulette, there is no 00.
